Years after the mysterious pandemic, life in North America has nearly vanished. Hunger and marauders are nothing compared to the ferals—those twisted by the infection. Megan, pregnant and weary, and her brother David leave their empty colony in search of safety. A massive pack nearly tears them apart before two wandering hunters, Cassius and Abigail, intervene. Together they head for a riverside settlement where Megan might give birth in peace, yet an unspoken secret clings to the siblings, and the ferals will not rest until they are found—and perhaps they are not the greatest threat ahead.
