Cleopatra’s Needle: Maelstrom by Tony Kayden

Drunken skinheads vandalizing Central Park’s Cleopatra’s Needle obelisk on a sweltering night, set off an unearthly chain of events, unleashing an ancient alien organism, dormant for centuries. One by one, animals and people succumb agonizingly to a baffling virus which seems to dry up all the fluids in their bodies.
