Basilisk by Scott Bradley

Skylar Solace’s squad is sent to investigate an enemy destroyer that appears to be abandoned. They find lizard-like creatures that are extremely fast and bite. Their victims go into a deep sleep and wake up hours later wanting to get bitten again. Skylar exposes a plot to use the basilisks to wipe out the population of a planet. She has to stop it.
